Case Summary:
Our client in this case was a postdoctoral researcher from Russia working on enzyme activity, protein labeling, inhibiting of cancer cell growth, enzymatic reactions, organic synthesis, and analytical, biological, and computational chemistry. We successfully demonstrated that his continued employment in the field of chemistry would benefit his fellow chemists as well as the general population of the United States. In order to achieve this success for our client, we submitted extensive documentation of his accomplishments, including his 10 peer-reviewed journal articles and numerous conference papers. At the time of filing, his publications had received no fewer than 128 citations, nearly all from independent and leading researchers around the world, indicating the wide recognition of and reliance upon his findings in his field. An independent recommender emphasized the importance of our client’s work: “He developed a technique which utilized NMR [Nuclear Magnetic Resonance] for quantification of organic compounds containing a phosphate group. Quantifying these compounds properly is a vital technology in the medical and pharmaceutical industries and is essential for the chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and biotechnology fields… [Client] worked to solve drawbacks of existing methods for the creation of a quick, accurate, and precise technique to enhance the efficacy of medicine, academia, and industry. The technology is efficient, non-destructive, and permits the quantification of every compound in the sample.” We were able to successfully argue that our client would serve the national interest to a significantly greater degree than others with similar education and experience. His NIW petition was approved in exactly four months.
