General Field: Bioinformatics
Position at the Time of Case Filing: Research Technologist
Country of Origin: Taiwan
Service Center: Texas Service Center (TSC)
State of Residence at the Time of Filing: New Mexico
Processing Time: 7 months, 11 days
Case Summary:
This EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) case involved a research technologist from Taiwan working in the field of bioinformatics. He needed North America Immigration Law Group’s expertise to file an I-140 and an I-485 (the two steps in the green card process).
As part of our approach, we counseled our client to solicit recommendation letters from experts in the field. Six experts agreed to lend their support through written testimonials, one of whom wrote, “[Client] has produced research that positively benefits a diverse set of fields, from disease monitoring to biosurveillance. Further, his contributions have been particularly interesting for the enhancements that they have brought to the field. A failure to retain [Client] would be extremely counter-productive to national goals. I encourage you to review [Client’s] achievements, and I reiterate my support of his career.” These words of encouragement played a role in strengthening our carefully prepared EB-2 NIW petition packet. We also highlighted our client’s M.Sc., his 13 publications, and the 36 citations his work had collected at the time of filing. Furthermore, we described our client’s development of novel algorithms to provide accurate microbial community profiles of metagenomic samples via sequencing technologies, as well as the performance of forensic analyses of deadly pathogens. Our legal team established the significance of his studies to the United States defense, government, research, and medical sectors, all of which contribute not only to the public good but also to the national economy.
Our client chose to file his I-140 and I-485 concurrently and is awaiting the latter’s approval notification. We join our client as he eagerly awaits the USCIS’ decision.
